Boyan Bontchev

A short CV

Boyan Bontchev has obtained his MSc in Computer Engineering at Technical University of Sofia in 1988 and a PhD degree in Parallel Processing at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in 1993. He has specialized in RWTH, Aachen and University of Vienna and, next, followed a career of software engineer and project manager at many private entities in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Bulgaria. Since 2001 he runned as managing Director of Bonea Ltd. and, latter, as CTO of Aemon Ltd. In 2003, he became Assoc. Professor at Dep. of Software Engineering at Sofia University, and in 2012 was promoted to Full Professor. He teaches OO analysis and design, XML technologies, semantic Web, software design patterns, and Java Web programming. Since 2013 he is Director of the Centre for Distant E-Learning at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Sofia University. For the period August 2014 - July 2016, he is Marie Curie research fellow at Brainstorm Multimedia (Valencia, Spain) responsible for the ADAPTIMES (ADAPTIve player-centric serious video gaMES) project funded by the FP7-PEOPLE program.

He has participated in many research and industrial projects, both national and international - in the scope of EC FP5/6/7 and H2020 - in the field of adaptive e-learning platforms, edutainment, serious games, and semantic Web. Dr. Bontchev was project evaluator for FP7 PEOPLE Programme and for many Bulgarian research project calls of National Science Fund, Plovdiv University and Sofia University. He was member of Program Committees of many international conferences and presented invited talks at some of them. Dr. Bontchev is author of more than 100 scientific publications.
